There will be a button on the face of the alarm usually labelled TEST. You need to press this firmly for at least 2 seconds. The alarm will make an ear piercing sound to indicate it is working. You will probably have more than one alarm. Test them all. We recommend you test at least once a week. You may also find that when you test one alarm other alarms will sound, this is normal in an installation where alarms are linked. If have any concerns about your smoke alarm or how to test it please contact our repairs department.
If you live in a flat you may have a detector which is part of the common parts fire alarm. These are usually smaller than a traditional smoke alarm and will not have a test button. You will most likely find this with in a hallway or close to your entrance door.
We advise
This will usually be a small white box on ceiling (or wall) similar in appearance to a smoke alarm but will usually be labelled to identify it as a carbon monoxide alarm. Carbon Monoxide (CO) is a colourless odourless gas produced when fuel is burnt. It is harmful and exposure to a high level of CO can be fatal. CO alarm will sound if the amount of CO in air could be harmful. You do not need a CO alarm if do not you have a gas appliance (cooker, boiler etc.) or an open fire.
Carbon monoxide alarms save lives. They give you warning of a raised CO level and give you time to escape safely. If they are not working properly you won’t get that warning.
